Jeff Dye has been a lightning rod in comedy circles for years. Ben Avery has public beef with him, allegedly stemming from Dye nuking Avery's YouTube channel. Lewis J. Gomez has brought Dye to Skankfest and defended him as "the nicest guy I've ever met" — handsome, funny, humble, appreciative. But as Lev Fur explained on the podcast, that's exactly the problem: it all feels like a performance. "I don't think it's the political takes," Lev said. "They just think the take comes from a disingenuous place. It's like, 'I could sell more tickets if I say this.' That's the gay part." Blind Mike agreed with the diagnosis, noting that Dye wasn't a vocal political figure until after COVID, when he saw there was money in hot takes. "With Joe Rogan, say what you want — it never felt phony. With Jeff, it felt very phony," Mike said. He pointed to the GoFundMe debacle where Dye asked fans to fund his move to Austin, then claimed it was a joke when he got roasted — "but if you gave it to me, I would have spent it on a house." There's a lot of people now that go on podcasts and talk shit because they know it gets views." The segment served as a showcase for the Cockfight podcast, which Blind Mike endorsed as genuinely funny and underappreciated. "Colum is very funny and should be more popular. Lev is also funny — I don't know that he should be more popular yet, but it'll get there," Mike assessed. The Jeff Dye mystery, meanwhile, remains unsolved in the sense that Dye continues to operate in the comedy world with a significant contingent of people who find him insufferable for reasons they could never quite articulate — until now.
