Baylen Dupree was born on July 30, 2002, in Toronto, Canada, but grew up in Ranson, West Virginia. She first began experiencing tics at age 6 or 7, but they intensified significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, just before her 18th birthday, she was officially diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and is among the minority that experiences coprolalia -- involuntary utterances of socially inappropriate words. She also has obsessive-compulsive disorder. In late 2020, Dupree began posting videos on TikTok depicting her life with Tourette syndrome, including her verbal tics, and quickly gained millions of followers. Her content resonated with audiences as she used humor and education to raise awareness about the condition. Some of her most famous tics include phrases like 'wind it up,' 'your mom's built like a falafel,' 'my mom has crabs,' and 'your mom wears sketchers.' Despite facing criticism from trolls who accused her of faking her condition, she continued posting and became a pre-nursing student at West Virginia University, taking her spring 2022 classes online due to the severity of her symptoms. By 2025, Dupree had amassed 10 million followers on TikTok and 1.4 million on Instagram, leading to TLC acquiring her reality show Baylen Out Loud, which premiered on January 13, 2025.
