Bill Burr

Also known as: Billy Red Face, Billy Boy Burr, Ol' Billy Freckles, Ol' Billy Red Nuts

William Frederick Burr was born on June 10, 1968, in Canton, Massachusetts, a quiet suburb southwest of Boston. Raised in an Irish Catholic household, he majored in radio at Emerson College in Boston, where he worked as a morning DJ -- an early indicator that his future would involve talking at people, even if they didn't necessarily want to hear it. After graduation, he worked a series of warehouse and construction jobs while grinding through open mics and comedy clubs starting in 1992. The early years were brutal and unremarkable, the standard decade of road gigs, empty rooms, and the slow accumulation of stage time that separates comedians who stick with it from everyone else. Burr's big break came in 1999 when he was discovered by Conan O'Brien, leading to his first late-night television appearance. He released his first comedy album, Emotionally Unavailable, in 2003, and in 2004, he made his breakout showcase on Chappelle's Show. But the venue that truly launched him was not television -- it was satellite radio. Burr became a regular guest on the Opie and Anthony Show, where his quick wit, willingness to argue with the hosts, and ability to turn any topic into a combustible rant made him a fan favorite. He appeared so frequently that XM Satellite Radio gave him his own show, Uninformed with Bill Burr and Joe DeRosa, which ran from 2006 to 2007. On May 14, 2007, Burr launched his Monday Morning Podcast, initially recorded independently from his apartment. The format was deceptively simple: Burr alone in a room, rambling about whatever was on his mind -- sports, relation
