K.C. Armstrong

Kyle Casey Armstrong was born on July 17, 1975, in Long Island, New York, and grew up in Suffolk County where his father served as the head football and wrestling coach at Port Jefferson High School. Armstrong played quarterback at Western Kentucky University before finding his way to The Howard Stern Show as an intern in 1997 at age 22. His combination of good looks, athletic build, and willingness to share personal confessions on air quickly made him a show fixture, and he was promoted to associate producer in 1998, a role he held until his firing in October 2004. KC's tenure on the Stern Show was defined by two competing narratives. On one hand, he was the all-American athlete with the chiseled physique -- an amateur bodybuilder who did layouts for American Health and Fitness magazine. His appearance generated endless on-air content, with the Stern crew mercilessly needling him about his grooming habits, his use of 'tan in a can' products, and persistent speculation that anyone who looked that good must be gay. The speculation became a running bit, fueled by KC's defensive reactions and the show's relentless forensic dissection of his personal life. On the other hand, KC was deeply troubled.
