Kevin Brennan grew up in a large Irish Catholic family -- ten kids total -- splitting time between Chicago and Philadelphia. His youngest brother Neal would go on to co-create Chappelle's Show with Dave Chappelle and become one of the most successful comedy writers of his generation. Kevin's path was different. He started doing stand-up in Chicago in the 1980s after a coworker at a restaurant suggested he try it, and moved to New York City in 1987 to pursue comedy full-time. The early career was genuinely promising. In 1993, Brennan appeared on Star Search, where he competed against a 19-year-old Dave Chappelle -- and lost. It is one of comedy history's more ironic footnotes that Chappelle would later collaborate with Kevin's brother Neal on a show that changed the landscape of American comedy, while Kevin would spend the next three decades stewing about the success of both. In 1994, he made his first appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, eventually racking up multiple appearances through 2007. He also appeared on Last Call with Carson Daly from 2003 to 2005.
