Tom Myers

Also known as: Tom, Bong Hit Transplant Guy, The Untalented Mr. Ripley, Baltimore's Worst Comedian, Tommy Myers

Tom Myers is a lifelong resident of the Baltimore, Maryland metropolitan area who began performing stand-up comedy at age 17 when he auditioned for his high school talent show. While a student at Goucher College in Towson, Maryland, Myers participated in open mics and talent showcases, laying the groundwork for what would become a decades-long career of bafflingly bad comedy. In 2004, while still in college, Myers recorded and produced his own one-man political show, 'Words of Mass Destruction,' performing it at Goucher and releasing a CD of the same title. This would be the first of four comedy albums Myers would self-release over the next decade and a half, with each subsequent release -- 'Pitchforks, Torches and Other Random Thoughts,' 'Shot from The Quip,' and 'Make America Innate Again' -- demonstrating no discernible evolution in craft, timing, or comedic perspective. Myers built what he describes as a legitimate resume over the years. He has performed at comedy festivals including the Baltimore Comedy Fest, LOL @ Artscape, the World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas, the Cape May Comedy Festival, and Gilda Radner's LaughFest in Grand Rapids. He has made walk-on appearances on HBO's VEEP and Netflix's House of Cards, and appeared in re-enactment shows on Investigation Discovery. What separates Myers from countless other regional comedians is the complete absence of growth that experience should have provided. A detailed analysis on The-Solute.com in 2018 broke down his formula: he has ideas, and that's it. They have no relevance, relying on outdated subject matter. They h

Tom Myers highlights

  • College Comedy Origins (2001-2004): Myers begins performing stand-up at age 17 and continues through Goucher College, producing his first one-man political show 'Words of Mass Destruction' in 2004.
  • The 'Bong Hit Transplant' (circa 2007): Myers' appearance on The Ed Schrader Show, a public-access Baltimore show, becomes legendary for the infamous 'bong hit transplant' line -- a joke that isn't actually a pun despite Myers treating it as one. It becomes the longest-running joke on the Cum Town podcast.
  • Four Albums of Stagnation (2004-2019): Myers releases four comedy albums over 15 years -- each demonstrating zero discernible evolution in craft, timing, or comedic perspective. Each sounds like a 1998 Jay Leno monologue written by someone who doesn't understand puns.
  • The Untalented Mr. Ripley Article (June 2018): The-Solute.com publishes a comprehensive breakdown of Myers' comedy, analyzing a 2017 Charm City Comedy Festival set. The article becomes the definitive text on his comedic deficiencies, comparing him to the Tommy Wiseau of stand-up.
  • Tom Myers vs. the Rest of the World and WATP (2020-Present): Launches his podcast in October 2020. WATP Episode 236 gives it the full Karl treatment, with Vinnie Paulino explaining precisely why Myers' comedy fails at every level. Myers becomes a recurring WATP subject.
  • Ongoing Regional Career (Present): Despite becoming a cautionary tale in comedy commentary circles, Myers continues performing at the Lou Costello Room in Baltimore and the Stand Comedy Club in NYC, and plans an album called 'Lack of Apology.'
